PHYSICAL EDUCATION

The goal of the physical education department is to enhance each student's life through a planned physical education program.  We promote fitness and health by encouraging students' physical, mental, and social development.  Students will develop physical skills which will enable participation in a variety of activities and lead to a lifetime of physical fitness and personal health.

Grading Policy:
100 points = Participation
A student will lose 10 points a day when he/she does not participate without an excuse note from a parent or doctor.
100 points = Dressing Out
A student will lose 5 points a day when he/she does not dress out completely (shirt, shorts, & athletic shoes).
100 points = Written Test Average
A student will take a written test at the end of every unit (ex. softball, track, etc.).

Dressing Out
Students are required to dress out for physical education class in the following:
1.  Plain grey T-shirt
2.  Dark colored shorts or sweatpants
3.  Athletic shoes

Physical education shirts should only have the student's first initial and last name written on the upper left chest area.  The shorts must be of a reasonable and respectable length with a minimum of a three inch inseam.  Form fitting shorts, such as spandex, and shorts with writing across the seat of the pants will not be allowed.  To make sure all students are safe, students will not be allowed to wear slip-on athletic shoes without a back heel.  In addition to required clothing, students should have a combination lock for the P.E. locker.  Personal hygiene items are also encouraged and these items may be kept in their gym locker.

Medical Information
It is very inmportant that we know of any limitations to activity.  Students who can not particpate because of a health or medical condition must have a note from a doctor or their parents.  A physician's note is needed if the student is to be excused for five or more consecutive days.  Students with asthma should have an inhaler available at all times.  In case of extended lack of participation, alternate plans will be made.
